ToggleWhat is hemp soap?
Hemp soap is a natural product made with hemp seed oil, an ingredient highly valued for its many benefits. This oil, extracted directly from hemp seeds, is known as a rich source of essential fatty acids, such as Omega 3, Omega 6 and antioxidants, which are essential for keeping skin healthy and balanced.
Thanks to these properties, hemp soap has gained popularity in the cosmetics industry, especially among those looking for natural solutions that are kind to the environment. Its ability to regenerate, nourish and protect the skin makes it an ideal ally for people with dry, sensitive or irritation-prone skin. In addition, its antioxidant compounds help fight the signs of premature aging.
For all these reasons, hemp soap has become a must-have in natural cosmetics, ideal for both facial and body care. Adding it to your daily routine can significantly improve your skin’s texture, hydration and overall health.
Properties of hemp soap
The properties of hemp soap are highly varied and beneficial, making it a highly recommended product for complete skin care. Its formula, based on hemp oil, offers many advantages thanks to its natural components and its wealth of essential nutrients.
Deep hydration
Hemp oil is known for its high content of essential fatty acids such as Omega 3 and Omega 6, which are key to intense, long-lasting hydration. These fatty acids penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, leaving it feeling soft and fresh without a greasy texture. As a result, the skin stays hydrated, supple and protected against dryness.
Soothing and anti-inflammatory properties
For people with sensitive skin or skin conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis or eczema, hemp soap can be a gentle option for daily hygiene, although it is not a substitute for a dermatologist’s advice. Its anti-inflammatory properties help soothe irritation and reduce redness, while its regenerating compounds contribute to a faster recovery of the skin barrier.
Antioxidant action
The antioxidants in hemp fight free radicals, which are responsible for premature skin aging. Thanks to this, regular use of hemp soap can delay the appearance of wrinkles and improve overall skin tone, promoting a more youthful, radiant look.
Improved skin elasticity
Another major benefit of hemp soap is its ability to improve elasticity. Its essential nutrients work in synergy to strengthen collagen and elastin fibers, resulting in firmer, more toned and healthier skin. It also leaves the skin with a smooth, even texture.
Benefits of regular use of hemp soap
Daily use of hemp soap provides both short- and long-term benefits, noticeably improving skin health.
Cleaning without drying
Unlike conventional soaps, which tend to strip the skin of its natural oils, hemp soap offers a deep yet gentle cleanse. Thanks to its balanced formula, it removes impurities without causing dryness or tightness. This is especially important for people with dry or dehydrated skin.
Skin pH balance
Maintaining a balanced pH is crucial for keeping skin healthy, and hemp soap helps with this naturally. Its composition prevents pH imbalances, reducing the risk of irritation, redness and allergic reactions. This makes it a perfect ally for a safe and effective daily hygiene routine.
How to make hemp soap at home (easy recipe)
If you love natural products, making your own hemp soap at home is a great idea. Below, we show you a simple, practical recipe with easy-to-find ingredients, ideal for beginners. With this step-by-step guide, you’ll be able to enjoy a high-quality soap with all the beneficial properties of hemp.
Necessary ingredients
Before starting, it is important to gather all the ingredients. For this recipe, you will need:
- 200 ml of hemp oil (provides hydration and essential nutrients).
- 300 ml of coconut oil (adds lathering and softening properties).
- 200 ml of olive oil (moisturizes and improves skin elasticity).
- 240 ml of distilled water (to dissolve the caustic soda).
- 95 g of caustic soda (needed for the saponification process).
- Natural essences (optional, to add fragrance).
It is important to use quality ingredients to ensure an optimal result. Also, be sure to work in a well-ventilated space and use protective equipment (gloves and goggles) throughout the process.
Step-by-step instructions
Follow these instructions to make your hemp soap correctly:
- Prepare the ingredients
Make sure you have all the ingredients ready. It’s essential to wear gloves and safety goggles to avoid accidents when handling caustic soda, as it’s a corrosive substance. - Mix the caustic soda with water
Carefully add the caustic soda to the distilled water (never the other way around) in a heat-resistant container. This mixture will give off heat and fumes, so it’s important to do it in a well-ventilated area. Stir carefully and let the mixture cool down to room temperature. - Heat the oils
In a pot, combine the hemp oil, coconut oil and olive oil. Heat over low heat until the oils melt and are fully blended. It’s important not to let them overheat. - Combine the mixtures
With both components (lye solution and oils) at a similar temperature (around 40-45°C), slowly pour the lye into the oils. Use a hand blender or whisk to stir constantly until you get a creamy texture, similar to thick mayonnaise. This stage is known as “trace”. - Pour into molds
Once the mixture has reached trace, pour it into lined silicone or wooden molds. You can add natural essences at this point to customize your soap’s fragrance. Smooth the surface and cover the molds with wax paper or a towel to retain the heat. - Rest and cure
Let the soap rest in the molds for 24 hours. Then carefully unmold it and cut it into bars if necessary. For your hemp soap to develop all its properties, you’ll need to let it cure for 4 to 6 weeks in a cool, dry place. During this time, the soap will harden and become ready to use.
