It all started when a group of high school students, known as “the Waldos”, began using the term as a code word for their ritual search for a marijuana crop in Point Reyes. As the story goes, one of them found a hand-drawn map showing the location of the supposed plantation. Every afternoon, at 4:20 pm, they met up to start the search.

Why did the number 420 become a symbol of cannabis culture?

Over time, 420 became a symbol of cannabis culture beyond the Waldos. The term began to spread through the local community, and it’s said that friends of their friends started using it until it eventually caught on.

What is the relationship between April 20 and marijuana?

April 20, or 4/20, is considered the official marijuana day worldwide.
